Making Industry Wisdom Accessible To All

The Marketplace Economy is a website designed to be the go-to resource for understanding and exploring the marketplace economy. It introduces users to key concepts and subcategories, features original articles from business experts and thought leaders, and houses a growing database of companies operating within this space.

As the sole designer for this project, I led the end-to-end transformation of a basic Medium blog into a structured, scalable platform. My focus was on creating intuitive navigation, clear content hierarchy, and user flows that cater to a range of audiences—from entrepreneurs to business analysts—while aligning with long-term business goals and ensuring a seamless content management process.

Making Industry Wisdom Accessible To All

Making Industry Wisdom Accessible To All

The Marketplace Economy is the go-to resource for understanding the complexities and nuances of digital marketplaces, a prominent aspect of our economy that many of us interact with on a daily basis.

As the sole designer for this project, I was tasked with taking a well-authored blog on Medium and creating a structured, scalable platform that would serve as a centralized hub for learning and thought leadership, where everybody from marketplace entrepreneurs to casual readers can gain powerful insights from some of the industry’s top experts in the space.

CMS INTEGRATION

Streamlining Client Handoff

While designing The Marketplace Economy, I constantly built the website with the idea that eventually, the client would have continue adding articles on their own. In order to make this process as easy as possible, I implemented a Content Management System (CMS) so that creating new articles was simply a matter of filling out a series of necessary text fields.

The CMS not only made it significantly easier to move all of the articles from the client’s previous blog on Medium, but after handoff, the client will not have to touch the design at all when adding new articles, reducing the risk of inconsistent layouts between articles.

DESIGN SYSTEM

Establishing the Brand

By considering the broad audience that The Marketplace Economy aimed to reach, our branding strategy needed to bridge two worlds: the authoritative presence of established financial institutions and the accessibility of modern fintech. The combination of a serif logo with a sans-serif font family and blue-purple color palette reinforces this duality, merging financial trust with forward-thinking energy.

We also eliminated pure white and pure black throughout the site, opting instead for off-whites and near-blacks with cooler tones. This subtle recalibration, barely perceptible to most users, creates a softer, more sophisticated visual experience that distinguishes The Marketplace Economy from the stark contrasts typical of traditional business-technology blogs.

SUCCESS METRICS

Scaling the Platform

To measure the website's impact and inform future design decisions, we've begun tracking key metrics that reflect both engagement quality and long-term growth. Newsletter Subscription Rate serves as our north star: subscriptions signal genuine interest and create a foundation of returning readers invested in the platform's insights. As subscriptions grow, we're also monitoring Monthly Active Visitors and Article Engagement Depth, which will help us reveal whether users are finding the content substantive enough to engage with deeply.

From a design perspective, my role is to continue removing friction and amplify value at every touchpoint. This means strategically positioning newsletter CTA’s to feel natural rather than intrusive, refining navigation and article legibility to support long reading sessions, and maintaining a cohesive visual identity that reinforces credibility. Each design decision directly ties back to these metrics, and ensures that the experience supports the platform's ambition of becoming a leading voice in marketplace business thought leadership.
